What do we have to do to change?
Ensure Leadership
CAPA will be hard to implement and sustain (as would any change) without good leadership. Here is a list of attributes of leadership to reflect on your current leadership goals (adapted from a Hertfordshire School Self-evaluation):
- Leaders express clarity of vision, a sense of purpose and high aspirations with a relentless focus on efficient and effective services
- Leaders inspire, motivate and influence staff towards the common goal of effective and efficient services
- Leaders provide good role models for other staff
- The leadership of the service creates and sustains effective teams at all levels
- Strategic planning and evaluation reflect and promote the organisation’s ambitions and goals
- Leaders are committed to running an equitable and inclusive service for all staff
- Leaders facilitate, inspire and develop their personnel both in management and service delivery.
Clarify reasons
Change is an active process. We know that is far more likely if three things are in place:
- The current situation feels intolerable
- You are clear about what you want to be different and
- The first steps are clear.
In our experience the more these are present, and shared by the whole team, the more likely services develop themselves. If, as an individual or as a service, you do not feel in a situation that must be changed then change is unlikely, or hard.
